What Roofing Material is Most Energy Efficient?

In a short response, many materials are relatively energy efficient and many are not as energy efficient. What really matters in terms of energy efficiency is the coating and color of the material and not necessarily the material itself. You could have all white shingles, as well as shingles with a coating on top and they will work with the same efficiency.

What determines energy efficiency?

The things that determine that amount of efficiency of your roof is how much it can reflect the sun.

What happens in a typical home with a plan rubber or shingle roof is that the sun will beat down onto the rooftop, and will then be absorbed as energy into the roof. This then causes the house to heat up, which is not great for your energy efficiency.

When you have special all-white shingles or roofing with a chemical coating on top the light will reflect more than without. This chemical coating is special to the roof and will not allow the energy to be absorbed into the roof. Instead, the light will be reflected back outward.

How does this help me?

By ensuring that your roofing is energy efficient, you will find that there are many different benefits. The first being costs. You will not have to pay as much money during the month for your energy bill. You will be able to see that there is a massive difference in your bill once you make the switch. Similarly, you will not need to constantly increase the amount of insulation in your home, which can be extremely costly.

Another benefit is that you will not have to use more energy. Similar to the point above, you will be using less energy, but in this sense, the cost is not money. By saving energy, you can help make sure that the environment is in the shape it should be by making your own contribution.
